About US

In 2007, a guy named George called together a few friends to tell them about an idea he had to help charities raise money. It was based on a book he'd read about the life span of the average t-shirt. It seems most people buy a t-shirt, at a concert, or a baseball game, or the mall, and they wear it for a few years or maybe just once, and then it goes in the back of a drawer. Some people wait until that drawer fills up, and they throw a bunch of them away. But others gather them up and give them to The Salvation Army or to Goodwill. That's the last they think of them...

They don't realize that those shirts go on to live several more lifetimes, and some for as long as twenty years. Sometimes in the same city or state, but just as often in parts of the world they themselves will never see. Shipped to third world countries, those shirts end up in Africa, Latin America, and all parts of Asia, often worn, even treasured by, people who will never see America.

George started to think, what if those shirts, instead of advertising Aerosmith or the Houston Astros, instead said something that might strike a chord with some of those people who wore or saw them over the years. What he came up with was a phrase, one that he'd always found meaningful, but which, more than ever, seemed important. Make Yourself Necessary. Everyday.

We live in a world of billions of people, and sometimes it feels like there are so many people, problems and responsibilities that the only way to get by is to worry about as few of them as possible. But it's not too late to try and change that. Anyway, we feel like today is a good day to try. Make Yourself Necessary.
